Reminders Introduction

Now, thanks to Microft.Com's advanced Internet Event Recycling Technology (InERT for short), when someone tries to access a page that doesn't exist at Microft.Com, the event is not wasted. It is put to good use to send email Reminders that our users have set up. You can use InERT, too. Just sign up to use Microft.Com's Reminders. It's completely FREE! What's a Microft.Com Reminder?

A Microft.Com Reminder is an email that is sent out to remind you of an important event. What kinds of events? Perhaps a birthday, anniversary, or any other important event. You can use Microft.Com Reminders to help remember when it is time to change the oil in the car, the batteries in the smoke dectectors, or clean those furnace filters.

You set up reminders to be sent out on a specific date and then to be repeated every so often. You can set them up to be sent every week, month, or year. You can set up a reminder to be sent every 2 weeks, 3 months, or many other intervals. You can even set up a Reminder to be sent only once and then deleted. This is handy for events that don't repeat, like a business meeting or wedding.

How do I sign up?

When you go to the Sign up page, you enter your email address and the password you want to use. We then send you a registration comfirmation email. Follow the instructions in the email, and you're registered. You'll then be able to create as many Reminders as you want.

Note: Because Microft.Com is a small organization, we can't afford our own Web Site Security Certificate (it is about $120/year), so we cheated and created our own certificate. That is why you get a warning from your browser saying the Certificate is fine, but wasn't created by a trusted certificate authority. That's OK, SSL will still work and be secure, you just have to trust us when we say it is a 1024 bit certificate and will be secure to use. Tell your browser it is OK to use the certificate, and you'll be sent to the Registration page.

Privacy Statement: We at Microft.Com respect your privacy. We would never allow anyone access to your email address. We will never SPAM you with any email other than Reminders and important notices about the Reminder Service. Your information is safe with us.

Disclaimer: Because of the way InERT works, we cannot guarantee that Reminders will always be sent out on the exact date you specify. However, we have not yet seen a case where they weren't sent out as scheduled. Because of the vagaries of the way the Internet works, we cannot be held responsible for failure to deliver Reminders on a timely basis.

Privacy Statement
We don't collect any information from you without you knowing about it and giving your explicit permission. In that case, we do our best to make sure it remains confidential, unless it is a guest book entry, and then we let you know it will be public. If we did collect anything else, and we don't, we wouldn't let anyone else know about it anyway. The only exception to this are the web server logs where it logs the IP address of all accesses to web pages. This information is used mostly for the purpose of making us pay for more bandwidth than we've purchased. It would be nice if that went away, but that's how our web hosting company makes money, so I guess it is OK. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, we do use the IP address to count hits on pages, too. That information gets purged after an hour, though, so I don't think that counts.
